Timer
The Timer is a task- or event-specific timer and document combined. It allows you to time a specific event (such as a client phone call) and type notes to associate with the event. Professionals with multiple clients or many tasks to manage concurrently can use ther Timers as a prioritized task list (prioritized in the Timers view).

Pressing the Timer button at the bottom-left of the main WakeUp window (as seen above) creates a new Timer, opening its own window (shown below in front of the main window, but the Timer shown below is obviously not new). If it looks a lot like the Alarm Clock view, that was intended. The Timer screen gets its colors from the same settings you make in the Settings view for the Alarm Clock view. Instead of sounding an alarm at a specific time though, the Timer times an event as it occurs and lets you document that event while it's being timed (or afterward).

If you must account for your time by task, or keep track of specific interactions with people, Timers are a good way to do both. Each Timer can be given its own name (the Timer above is named "WakeUp Release 1.1.7", obviously in reference to a release of the WakeUp software). The text can be any thoughts you may want to freely associate with the event.
A Timer can be saved for later processing or continuation, paused and left visible on the screen, and printed. It's designed to support you in whatever manner you can best use it. As soon as the window opens, it starts a clock timing the event (seen in red). A Timer can even be created or opened as a result of an Alarm firing, as documented in the Alarms view. Unlike WakeUp's main window, Timer windows can be resized so you can see more of your detailed notes if you like.
Pause The Pause button pauses the clock so it is no longer incrementing the elapsed time. When paused and not incrementing, this button changes to read "Resume". Pressing it when it reads "Resume" will "un-pause" the clock, allowing it to continue incrementing the elapsed time. When paused, the Pause button flashes to alert you to its state (like the Snooze bar of the Alarm Clock view).
Reset Pressing the Reset button resets the incrementing time back to 00:00:00 (no hours, minutes, or seconds), but it does not stop or pause the Timer. To reset and wait at 00:00.00, press Pause before pressing Reset.
Interrupt The Interrupt button gives you an easy way to stop working on the current task and start timing a new task. Pressing Interrupt pauses the current Timer and opens a new Timer window for the new task or event. For example, if you were already using a Timer for one client when another client calls, pressing the Interrupt button puts the first client's Timer in pause mode, and immediately starts timing the new task with a brand new Timer. When you are done with the interceding client's work, you can return to the previous client's Timer and press its Resume button to continue that task. We don't place any limitation on the number of interruptions you can handle, but most people have their own breaking points.
Save Pressing the Save button (or typing the ^S shortcut) will save the Timer to your hard drive (normally in the /Timers directory, but you can set where it saves). You can save a Timer as often as you like, but you must save it at least once to place it in the Timer List, displayed in the Timers view of WakeUp. When you first save a Timer, the name of the file will default to matching the name of the Timer, but you can change the file name, as they do not have to match.
Close Pressing the Close button (or hitting the Escape key) closes the Timer window. If the Timer has not been saved using the Save button, the Timer will no longer exist (no matter how much you typed...). However, any Timer that has been changed will ask if you want to save it when closing without having already saved.
Print Pressing the Print button (or typing the ^P shortcut) submits the Timer to print on your system's default printer. A printed Timer has a heading indicating the Timer's name, page count. Starting date/time, and elapsed time (along with all your text and typos).
